Gregory Hill

Title:

Assistant Professor

Department:

Optometry

College/Division:

College of Optometry

Dr. Gregory Hill is originally from South Dakota, and after graduating with Honors from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1995 has enjoyed a stimulating diversity of practice modalities in several Great Plains states beginning with large group private practice, then partnership arrangements, corporate retail care, refractive surgery clinic management, and finally hospital-based co-management in an Ophthalmology practice. While practicing in South Dakota he also taught an undergraduate Biology course, and during both graduate and undergraduate schools he taught laboratory sections for Optometric Procedures and Vertebrate Zoology, respectively. Furthermore, he contributed research during undergraduate school to a long term National Science Foundation study on the management of prairie ecosystems, along with co-authoring published journal articles within the study. He became recognized locally by regular appearances in television news segments on eye care topics representing Avera Regional Health System, and provided continuing education lectures for the Physician’s Assistants group within the Health System.

Dr. Hill has held memberships in the American Optometric Association (AOA), the AOA Contact Lens Section, the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry, the Nebraska Optometric Association, and the South Dakota Optometric Society including five years of service on their Board of Directors. For the past three years, Dr. Hill has been President of the South Dakota chapter in Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH), and has been involved with VOSH since Optometry school, including multiple mission trips to Mexico, Jamaica, and to Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. He holds a Certification for Advanced Clinical Training in Refractive Surgery Management through TLC Vision, has been accepted into both the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honorary Fraternity and Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, and obtained Dean's List recognition all seven semesters of undergraduate school.

Dr. Hill believes it is vital to our quality of life that we never stop learning, and his consistent career focus has been to lead by example in maintaining the highest standards of Optometric practice through professionalism, cooperation, and understanding among colleagues, patients, and administrators alike. He encourages the sharing of knowledge with each other by adapting to the audience with dialogue others can relate to, because the sharing of knowledge is what provides the foundation for a community to work together toward achieving a meaningful quality of life.
