Dr. Besada graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1989. He completed a hospital-based residency Program at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1990. Dr. Besada served as Clinic Chief at Southeastern University (today Nova Southeastern) from 1990 to 1995 and currently is a Professor at Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale. He serves as preceptor for the fourth-year students at the North Miami Beach Optometry Clinic. Other responsibilities include serving as resident supervisor. Previously he also has served as mentor for Optometry students in the Interdisciplinary Generalist Curriculum for the College of Optometry.
Dr. Besada is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Optometry Retinal Society. He is the author of numerous regional, national and international clinical and scientific journals such as Optometry and Vision Science, the Journal of the American Optometry Association, Clinical and Experimental Optometry, Journal of Optometry, Clinical and Refractive Optometry and Clinical Eye and Vision Care.
