Dr. Mariem Abdou completed her undergraduate education at the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University and continued there for a one-year residency in Primary Care. Afterwards, she earned a Master’s of Science in Nutrition degree with an emphasis in Sports Nutrition and graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Abdou currently holds the rank of Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, and she serves as the Director of External Residency Programs for the college’s affiliated residencies. She is an attending optometric physician at The Eye Care Institute at Nova Southeastern University where she is a Residency Supervisor and precepts third and fourth year student interns in the Primary Care service.

Her responsibilities at NSU include instructor of record for the Optometric Theory and Methods course and laboratory, Ocular Nutrition and the Eye, Clinical Gerontology, and Case Analysis and Clinical Reasoning courses. She is also involved in guest lecturing in various courses, serving on multiple committees, precepting and mentoring students, and supervising residents in the clinical setting. She has presented posters at AAO, AOA, and SECO and has lectured at Continuing Education events in various topics. Her interests lie mainly in ocular disease diagnoses and management as well as nutritional medicine. Dr. Abdou is a fellow and active member of the American Academy of Optometry.
