Founded in 1925, Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society has grown to more than 2,300 members worldwide, with student chapters in all schools and colleges of ptometry in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The BSK organization supports joint teamwork between students and faculty to promote academic and scientific excellence and interest in research while maintaining high moral and ethical standards in optometry.

The Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry chapter was established in 1994 with eight BSK members in the first graduating class. Since then, the number of graduating members continues to grow each year. Twenty-five faculty members graduated from their schools and colleges of optometry as members of BSK. Also, two of our faculty members graduated first in their class - Valedictorian - and received the BSK Silver Medal Award.

Students who achieve an academic average of 90% at the end of each academic year are eligible for membership in the NSU College of Optometry Chapter of BSK. To remain a member, students must maintain a 90% academic average each year. All members of BSK wear a gold cord at graduation to signify their excellent academic achievement during their four years at the college. Also, the graduating member with the highest academic average is awarded the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society Silver Medal Award.

Our chapter is very active and provides tutoring services year round, administers a mock pre-clinical proficiency examination during the winter semester, and holds an induction/installation banquet in the fall.
