PAMELA R. OLIVER, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O. Dr. Pamela R. Oliver received her O.D. degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry (SUNY) in 1990, and completed her residency in Rehabilitative/ Hospital Based Optometry in 1991at the Edward Hines Jr. and Westside Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. She received her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University in 1998 to enhance her practice of low vision rehabilitation. Involvement in rehabilitative and geriatric services has offered Dr. Oliver the opportunity to lecture to a diverse group of professionals from educators to mental health counselors and occupational therapists. Dr. Oliver has maintained an interest in applied research from early in her practice when she worked with T.T. McMahon, et al to study the effect of low vision rehabilitation on reading rate through saccadic eye movements. Most recently, Dr. Oliver presented her work at the American Academy of Optometry Meeting in Dallas, December 2003. She has collaborated with Julie Jacko, PhD of Georgia Institute of Technology on a Project titled: An Investigation of Modalities of Feedback and will be presenting this work at the American Optometric Association Meeting in Orlando, June 2004. Dr. Oliver is currently collaborating with Armando Barreto, PhD of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering of Florida International University on a project titled “On-screen deconvolution to facilitate computer access for users with visual impairments involving higher-order wavefront aberrations” funded by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Oliver has been involved in education from clinical instruction to lecturing on a variety of vision care topics, especially those related to low vision rehabilitation. Upon completion of her residency in 1991, she went on to serve as a clinical instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology of West Virginia University Health Center. As the Director of both the Contact Lens and Low Vision Services for WVU Eye Center, Dr. Oliver delivered full scope low vision and contact lens care, trained residents and a low vision technician, and provided continuing education for the many professionals involved in rehabilitation. In 1992 she left WVU to take a position as Director of the Low Vision Rehabilitation and Geriatric Optometry Clinical Rotation and Chief of the NSU University Eye Clinic's Low Vision Service from 1993 to 2001. She has developed a variety of lecture, laboratory, and clinical courses including Low Vision Rehabilitation, Optometric Theory and Methods and Case Conference. Most recently she has joined the Pediatrics and Binocular Vision faculty in both clinical precepting and laboratory instruction. An active member in the various professional organizations locally as well as nationally, Dr. Oliver is a member of the American Optometric Association, a member of its low vision section and was a founding member of the Florida Optometric Association Low Vision Committee serving as chair for the first two years. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry; a member of the Southern Council of Optometrists; and is a panel member of the Florida Division of Blind Services and is currently serving on its Advisory Board. Most recently, Dr. Oliver has become a clinical director for the Florida Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes. She is currently an Associate Professor of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University, Health Professions Division, and College of Optometry, located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Pamela R.
