CVR Faculty

Dr. Bai-Chuan Jiang

Dr. Bai-Chuan Jiang graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1986 with Ph.D. degree in Physiological Optics. Following graduation, he completed his post-doctor trainings in University of Toronto, Department of Physiology; Penn State University, Department of Psychology; and University of Houston, College of Optometry between 1987 and 1990. From 1991 to 2000, he worked in University of Houston, College of Optometry to teach graduate and professional programs in various topics including vision science, physiological optics, and optics. During this period, he obtained several research grants: NIH grant (1991-1995), Bausch & Lomb grant (1993-1994), Hong Kong Polytechnic Research grant (1995-1998), Institute for Space System Operations (ISSO) grant (1996), and EyeSys Technologies Research support (1996). He has been a fellow of American Academy of Optometry since 1994. In 2000, he joined the faculty in Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry with the rank of Professor. He has published more than 60 papers and 50 abstracts. In past years, he obtained the President's Faculty Research and Development Grant three times. He is also a visiting professor of three major medical universities in China and the oversee Director of the Myopia Research Institute in Wenzhou Medical College.

His current research interests include the oculomotor mechanism in the development of refractive error, modeling of visual system, and the evaluation of retinal image quality. His current teaching assignments include Theoretical Optics 1 and 2, Optics Lab 1 and 2, and some courses in graduate program: Presentation and Publication, Visual Optics 1, 2, and 3.
