Overview

Please join us for this annual event with continuing education being held in our Health Professions Division Building.

This 2018 Clinical Eye Care Conference & Alumni reunion will feature three days of lectures that are designed to enhance your clinical practice by reviewing a wide variety of ocular conditions -- from anterior segment to the posterior segment of the eye, and introducing new management protocols.   Included in the continuing education will be management of an array of ocular pathologies and specific consideration for how nutrition and systemic medications may impact the eye.

Dr. Kim Reed will start the conference on Friday discussing Contemporary Issues in Nutrition and Eye Care and she will be followed by Dr. Johnlee (Romero) Beaton – Class of 2008 – discussing Ocular Side Effects of Select Drugs.  Completing the day on Friday will be Dr. Cristina (Llerena) Law, representing the Class of 2006 and current president of the NSUCO Alumni Association.

Our featured speaker is Dr. Blaire Lonsberry, a Professor at the College of Optometry at Pacific University where he has divided time in different clinics ranging from Primary Care to Advanced Ocular Disease.   Following graduation from University of Waterloo, Dr. Lonsberry completed a residency at ICO and earned a Masters in education. He will discuss ways to simplify systemic antibiotics for optometrist and provide an Interactive Grand Rounds CE.  Completing the day on Saturday will be current NSU faculty members, Dr. Julie Rodman and Dr. Julie Tyler discussing OCT angiography and Anterior segment “alphabet soup”, respectively.

Sunday will feature lectures on the vitreous and retina presented by Retina Macula Specialists and moderated by Dr. Diana Shechtman – a 1998 graduate of Nova Southeastern University and previous faculty member.  The final four hours of Sunday will provide Florida optometric licensing requirement discussions on Prevention of medical errors and Florida jurisprudence presented by 2001 NSUCO graduate, Dr. Stuart Kaplan.  Throughout the weekend, 12 hours will be available for Transcript Quality (TQ) credit.

Our alumni reception will take place Saturday evening, April 28th from 6:00-8:00 at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort located in Fort Lauderdale.  The address is 2000 North Ocean Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33305.  All alumni are welcome to attend with the reception free to all alumni and $30 for guests.  We have reserved a small block of rooms at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort if you wish to stay on the beach for a nightly rate of $271.  They have traditionally gone quickly so don’t wait!

Our 10 and 20 year classes (1998 & 2008) will receive complimentary CE for the entire weekend and the 5 &15 year classes are complimentary for Saturday only.

The only pricing change we have made for 2018 involves the grading of TQ.  We will now be charging per exam regardless of the number of exams submitted for grading.  You can elect to pay for the number of exams you would like when you register or you can wait and mail your payment with the Scantrons post-event.

Thank you for considering NSU College of Optometry for your CE needs. This strong weekend program will be stimulating and rewarding for all who attend.
